Oil Dump

While out taking pictures this weekend, I found a bucket of oil at Flatford bridge at the north end on left side corner of guardrail. At first it appeared someone had poured some oil on the ground. But, after looking closer I found a full bucket of oil and a filter someone left there. Folks, this is a blatant and careless disregard for the environment. Of all places to dump oil, someone dumps 5 gallons of oil at the bridge. I will notify the county Monday morning to get it picked up and the site cleaned up.

There are several way’s to dispose of oil these day’s. One way to get rid of used oil, is to take it to one of the auto parts stores. Some will take used oil. We will make some call’s Monday and find out who all takes used oil and post on this website. I believe the county dump takes used oil also. Another idea that has been suggested, perhaps we could get someplace here in Myakka that oil could be taken too.

If some of us choose to change our own oil, let’s be responsible enough to dispose of it in a safe and proper manner. Batteries can also be a problem. The county landfill takes batteries. We will also get the scoop on battery options while we’re at it.

Let’s all do our part to help keep the environment clean and safe for the generations to come. Any comment’s or idea’s would certainly be welcomed in our forum.
